About the Middle School

Middle School at The Vanguard School is a time of growth, exploration and increasing independence. Students build on the academic, communication and social-emotional skills developed in elementary school while taking on greater responsibility for their learning and daily routines. Individualized instruction and integrated therapeutic supports help students strengthen academic skills, develop self-regulation and executive functioning, navigate relationships and discover strategies that help them learn and engage successfully.

As students progress through Middle School, learning increasingly connects to life beyond the classroom. Opportunities to practice independence, self-advocacy, problem-solving, daily living and early work-readiness skills help students begin thinking about their strengths, interests and future possibilities. With the right balance of structure, support and growing expectations, Middle School prepares students to move confidently into high school and take the next steps on their individual path toward Learning for Life.
